The Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club (WCCSC) is still seeking input on its future direction.

The club’s month-long “Let’s Imagine … WCCSC” process launched with an online survey last month and will conclude with two World Café forums that will enable participants to provide their input in person.

Tomorrow, the club will host its first World Café forum from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Grey Mountain Room at the Mt. McIntyre Recreation Centre.

A World Café is a type of engagement that encourages discussion, brainstorming and developing ideas into realistic objectives. Participants are asked to bring their ideas that fit into a sustainable future for the club.

The club wants to hear from its 1,300 members and other users of its trail system on their vision for the facility’s future.

Feedback is sought on what the club is doing well and where improvements could be made.

“It’s very important to the club that we gather as much input as possible from our members and other winter users of the Mt. McIntyre trails,” club president Craig Thur said in a press release.

The deadline for the online survey has been extended to April 11 to give people more time to respond after the spring and Easter breaks.

It asks questions about users’ activities on the Mt. McIntyre trail system, their thoughts on the club’s services and costs, and their future expectations.

The club launched the survey on March 11 and close to 300 responses have already been submitted.

Two WCCSC season passes for next year are offered as draw prizes. All survey and World Café participants are eligible to enter the draw.

The input phase will wrap up with a second World Café event for youth (ages 10 to 17) on April 21.

That evening will give younger members and users of the club’s facilities a chance to provide their ideas.

“We are also looking forward to seeing a lot of people and having some really interesting and stimulating sessions at our World Café events in the coming weeks,” said Thur.

In other news, Cross Country Yukon has received funding from the Community Development Fund for the preliminary design and costing of a paved loop trail on a portion of the trails at the ski club.

The funds will help determine the feasibility of the project, a collaboration between Cross Country Yukon, the City of Whitehorse and other groups.

The proposed multi-use paved loop (approximately five kilometres) would provide a safe place to roller ski and provide a link between the Canada Games Centre and the ski club that can be used for other activities.
