The Whitehorse Huskies have secured a team sponsor.
The senior men’s hockey club unveiled Nuway Crushing Ltd. as its title sponsor this morning.
The local rock crushing company has signed on to sponsor the team for the next two years, the club announced via press release.
Nuway will donate upwards of $5,000 per season, said Huskies president and general manager Matt King.
As part of the agreement, the Huskies will be known as the Nuway Crushing Whitehorse Huskies through the 2016/17 season.
Nuway Crushing is excited to be part of the Huskies upcoming season, and recognizes the importance of private sector financial support to the survival of senior hockey in Yukon, said the company’s general manager Travis Adams.
The Huskies’ board of directors acknowledged Nuway’s longstanding local involvement and support of community organizations.
“Their generous support moves us much closer to success as we continue our fundraising efforts to bring high calibre hockey entertainment to the Yukon,” said King, noting Nuway’s generosity went above and beyond what was asked.
Meanwhile, the Huskies will open the season with a home-and-home series against the Fort Nelson Yeti.
The first two games will be played in Fort Nelson, B.C., on Nov.13 and 14, with return dates at Takhini Arena Dec. 11 and 12.
Advance tickets will be sold as a series pass for $20, while remaining single game tickets will be $10 at the arena door.
Following a short training camp, the team announced its roster last week.
This year, proven scorers Joe Densmore, Kevin Petovello and Ted Stephens join a talented offensive core of Evan Campbell, Kane Dawe, Adam Henderson and Derek Klassen.
Team captain Jared Tuton will anchor the blue-line while JJ Gainsforth has been named starting goalie.
Campbell, Klassen and Clayton Thomas are assistant captains.
The Huskies need to play six sanction games in order to be recognized by BC Hockey and compete in the Coy Cup playdowns.
Corporate sponsorship opportunities are still available for interested companies, while season tickets are being offered as part of supporter and booster packages.
Season tickets start at $500, while individuals looking to support the club will receive two season tickets as a booster ($250) or two passes to opening weekend as a supporter ($150).
