Hundreds of mini wrestlers took over the Canada Games Centre this week for the ever-popular wrestling championships.
The event, staged by the Yukon Schools’ Athletic Association, featured athletes from 12 elementary schools.
Christ the King took home the most medals – by a long shot.
The Riverdale school’s total medal tally was 52: with tournament-highs in gold (21), silver (16) and bronze (15).
The Wolverines racked up 1,718 total points, nearly doubling runner-up Holy Family, who earned 879 points via six golds, 12 silvers and eight bronzes.
Running a close third was Elijah Smith, with 857 total points earned via six gold, seven silver and 12 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, the top-three performing schools based on student-ratio athletes were Selkirk, Jack Hulland and the Yukon Montessori School.
High school wrestlers did not participate this year.
Athletes also received a visit from recently retired Watson Lake wrestler Brittanee Laverdure.
Laverdure retired in December at the age of 33 after missing out on a berth in the 2016 Olympics.
She earned silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
