Despite a foot injury, Bryn Hoffman and Bryce Chudak are officially the eighth-best junior pairs duo in the world.
Hoffman, 18, of Whitehorse, and Chudak, 20, of Rocky Mountain House, Alta., finished the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Debrecen, Hungary, in eighth place yesterday.
With 138.12 total points, the duo was less than a full point behind the top Canadian pairing of Quebec’s Justine Brasseur and Mathieu Ostiguy – who finished seventh.
Czech Republic’s Anna Duskova and Martin Bidar took gold with 181.82 points.
Hoffman competed despite fracturing her left heel at nationals in January, where they won silver.
She and Chudak were ranked sixth after a season-best short program Wednesday.
The pair’s long program featured several falls, however, and saw them finish 10th for an eighth overall finish in their final event of the season.
“We weren’t even sure if we were going to be able to compete at junior worlds,” said Hoffman, who took painkillers before competing and is now walking in an air cast.
“My left foot is my takeoff foot, not my landing foot. That’s basically the only reason we were still allowed to train and compete.”
The two aim to continue competing as a senior pair next season, Hoffman said this morning.

So proud of these two and Parents must be too. Shows determination and strength. I can remember Figure Skating in the North Central B.C. and Yukon Competitions (many years ago) with a concussion but a fractured heel is almost unimaginable. Way to go you 2.
