While one P&M Recycling dynasty lived on Sunday, another missed out on its sixth Dustball title of the decade.

The P&M Recycled Sistas lost the Women’s A final 14-2 to Louie’s – a heavy-hitting club from Juneau.

Unlike the P&M Recycling Guns, who regained their Men’s A title after losing in the final last year, the Sistas were unable to muster enough offence to beat Louie’s in Sunday’s final.

“We didn’t have the sticks and you can’t win without them,” Sistas outfielder Terri Cairns said post-game.

“We’ve won a ton of these tournaments, but that team was tremendous. They scared the crap out of us.”

The Sistas, previously known as Yukon Gold, finished third last year after winning five straight Dustball titles between 2009 and 2013.

Louie’s clean-up hitter Taylor Larson smacked a two-run single to right field in the bottom of the fifth to give her club victory via the 12-run fifth-inning mercy rule.

“I was feeling a little pressure there,” said Larson, who smacked a home run out of the park in an earlier 14-1 win over the Dawson City Snatchers.

“There was two outs and we needed two runs to win the game and wanted to get it over with.

“I just went up there super relaxed and also eager to hit, since I hadn’t had a hit all game.”

Larson and her two sisters – Danielle and Ashley – made up the middle of the order in Sunday’s final.

“We wanted to beat the host team,” said Louie’s shortstop and captain Dee Boster, who scored twice in the final.

“We expected this type of performance from ourselves, but this was fun and competitive. The Sistas are a good team.”

Louie’s is a bar in the Alaskan capital, Boster explained. The team consisted of three Juneau teams meshed together as one.

Ilea Belcourt, Amelia Rivera and Krisi Salvig also crossed the plate twice each during the championship game.

Louie’s did not lose in the tournament, beating the G&R Pawn Stars 18-4, Dawson City 14-1, the Sistas 18-6, and the third-place Fountain Tire Titans 18-4 to set up Sunday’s final.

Through five games, Louie’s outscored their opponents 82-17.

“We just came here super eager to win,” said Larson. “We were fired up and just played really well.

“We played really good defence. We stopped all their hits and stayed in front of the ball. Nothing got by us. Our hits were a plus, but defence really won us this tournament.”
