There's no shortage of explanations for the Boston Pizza/Matco Hawks' success in the Whitehorse Recreational Hockey League.
Just ask any one of its players.
Everything from top goaltending, great defense, team chemistry, family support and hard work are among the theories.
On Tuesday, however, it was Boston Pizza/Matco's offense that made the difference in its 8-6 championship win over Roadhouse.
The victory added a fourth straight ‘A' divisional title to the Hawks' dynasty run.
"It's nice to sum up the season like this," said Boston Pizza/Matco player Rob Johnson. "That's what you are working for."
In its eight years of existence, Boston Pizza has finished first an incredible five times.
Roadhouse, which was the top ranked team in the playoffs, came into Tuesday's game facing elimination after it lost the series opener 4-2 last week.
The Hawks gave their supporters plenty to cheer about early and often from both ends of the ice.
The group scored a quick goal in the opening 10 seconds and then added one more a few minutes later.
Derek Johnstone netted Boston Pizza's first goal, while Lance Brown scored its second. Johnstone's goal was the Hawks first shot on net.
It didn't take Roadhouse long to show why they finished with the best regular season record and at 13:47, Boston Pizza's lead was cut in half.
Roadhouse's first goal was scored by Matt Kremer, who was in perfect position to bang in a rebound after Hawks goaltender Brian Power had made a pad save.
The goal seemed to spark players on Roadhouse, forcing Power to stay sharp and make a few tough saves.
Power's efforts were rewarded with three more Boston Pizza goals, giving him a comfortable 5-1 lead to take into the second frame.
Boston Pizza's third goal was put in by Bryan Curial, who scored after Roadhouse goalie Matt King made a nice kick-save, but wasn't able to reach the rebound in time.
Johnstone and Brown made up the team's remaining first period scorers.
It was a wild second period that on more than a couple of occasions looked like it might feature an improbable Roadhouse comeback.
There was little cheering for Roadhouse's second goal, however the team's following two generated some enthusiasm.
Unfortunately for Roadhouse, Boston Pizza still had the scoring touch and added three more goals to its total in the final 22 minutes.
Penalty trouble resulted in Roadhouse scoring twice in the final two minutes, but that was as close as it would get.
Second period scorers for the Hawks included Johnson, Curial and James Edzerza.
Roadhouses remaining goal producers were Darren VanLangen, who finished with two, Jamie Cairns, Mark King and Shayne King.
With the average of players on Boston Pizza being around 35 years old, the team is one of the oldest in the ‘A' division.
Randy Merkel, who was a first year player on the Hawks, said this veteran experience helped them win the ‘A' division.
"It's tough to beat experience and camaraderie," he said. "That's the thing."
Johnson, who finished with two points in Tuesday's final, said Roadhouse is a class act team.
"We like playing them, we don't have hassles with them," he said. "They are a very skilled bunch of individuals."
When asked what could be better than four straight championships, Johnson gave an obvious answer: "Well five," he said.
Johnson also gave credit to the Whitehorse Recreational Hockey League's executive members.
"We would really like to thank the league executive for all their hard work and dedication though (the season)," he said.
Both Boston Pizza/Matco and Roadhouse had a well balanced offensive attack on Tuesday.
Every player on the Hawks finished with at least one point, while nearly all of Roadhouse's members did the same.
