PEDAL TO THE METAL – Mountain biker Samantha Salter helped propel her team, the Motley Crew, to first place honours at the Long Lake Triathlon on Saturday.
Team Motley Crew set the pace for this year’s Long Lake Triathlon with a time of one hour, 46 minutes and 36 seconds.

Kathleen Hale kicked off the Crew Saturday morning with a 1,000-metre swim along the west shore of the lake before handing off to teammate Samantha Salter for the 16-kilometre ride through the network of mountain bike trails in the area.
Jody Eikelboom brought the Crew home with a six-kilometre trail run.
The Motley Crew’s time was just under 13 minutes faster than the second-place Renegades, a mixed team of swimmer Leslie Carson, biker Rob Legare and runner Matt Ordish.
The mixed Shanny team placed third in a time of 2:24:54, with Manuel Sidler completing the swim and run while Shannon Mallory did the mountain biking.
Joel Macht in the open male category posted the quickest individual time, finishing in 1:51:02, 12 minutes ahead of Jordon Lindoff, who finished second in the open male with the second fastest individual time overall.
It was a race to the wire in the male masters division as Sandro Holzinger finished first in a time of 2:09:24, just 32 seconds ahead of John Carson after more than two hours of racing.
Terry Joss finished third in the male masters in a time of 2:23:06.
Kelly Proudfoot won the open female in a time of 2:09:03, while Christina Mavinick finished second in 3:17:20 and Gillian Smith was third with a time of 2:46:39.
The female masters was won by Christine Paradis in a time of 2:56:36 while Sue MacKinnon finished second with a time of 3:17:20.
There were 26 participants in all.
