Gusting winds don't slow down cyclists in time trial
VeloNorth's Porter Creek time trial course is not for the faint of heart.
VeloNorth's Porter Creek time trial course is not for the faint of heart.
On Wednesday, it comprised two loops of a course that takes cyclists down 12th Ave. from Centennial to Mountainview Drive then to Range Road and down to Two-Mile Hill, up onto the Alaska Highway and back into Porter Creek.
When the times were calculated after 21.8-km of racing, Troy Henry had established another course record and clocked his fourth straight victory early of the young cycling season.
Henry's time of 30 minutes and 17 seconds shattered the old record by more than one minute and put him almost two minutes up on second place finisher Ian Parker.
Not to be outdone, Heather Enders, riding in the Women's Expert Class, also captured her fourth win of the season by besting all female riders with a time of 37 minutes and 22 seconds. Her nearest competition came from Kerrie Paterson in the Sport Women's division who recorded a time of 37 minutes and 55 seconds.
Paterson's time put her one minute up on second place rider Laura Salmon.
In the Sport Men's category Darren Holcombe posted his first win of the season stopping the clock at 35 minutes and 44 seconds.
Only 40 seconds back was Brian MacDonald in second place.
VeloNorth's next event is the much anticipated Skagway Hill Climb on Sunday. Registration starts at 11 a.m. Yukon time at the junction of the road to Dyea and the South Klondike Highway in Skagway with the first rider starting at noon (Yukon time)
