Good weather brings fast times in trail marathon

The annual Yukon River Trail Marathon was held in the Whitehorse area Sunday.

The annual Yukon River Trail Marathon was held in the Whitehorse area Sunday.

Hundreds of athletes from Canada, the United States, Germany, Japan and Australia took part in the event. They ran full marathon, half marathon and relay distances.

Michael Richards posted the fastest time in the full marathon, finishing in three hours, 13 minutes and 37 seconds.

In the half marathon, it was Whitehorse's Rodney Hulstein winning with a time of 1:19:32. The top female runner in the full marathon was Dawn Hamel (3:52:12).

The top female in the half marathon was Maura Sullivan (1:30:58).

New this year for the marathon category was the start and finish in Shipyards Park.
