It was a battle of the sexes at the final daylight meet of the Yukon orienteering season.

Held last Wednesday at the SS Klondike, the event took place on a newly updated portion of the Whitehorse downtown map – an area bordered by Fourth Avenue, Steele Street, the clay cliffs and Robert Service Way.

On the novice course, “The Girls” eked out a one-minute victory over “The Boys” – finishing the 2.2-kilometre map in 17:56.

The female squad was made up of Jen Moran, Jill Delaney and Havanna Papequash, while the runner-up boys team included Ben Wright, Tom McIntosh and Shea Newnham.

On the 2.7-km intermediate course, Bruce McLean (25:01) beat runner-up Charles Turanich-Noyen to the finish line by just two seconds.

Forest Pearson took the 2.7-km advanced course win in 22:39, ahead of Caelan McLean (24:04).

In total, 48 orienteers turned out for the evening meet.

The final event of the 2015 season will take place Sept. 25 under the cover of darkness.

The night orienteering meet will take place at Wolf Creek Campground with orienteers using headlamps as their only source of light.

Registration will open at 7:30 p.m.
