Alexandra Gabor sure knows how to celebrate the New Year.

She kicked off 2010 in Australia by winning gold in the women's under 16 100-metre freestyle at the Australian U-18 Swimming Championships

The sixteen-year-old won the event yesterday in 56.42 seconds.

She then followed up her success earlier today by winning gold in the women's 400-m freestyle in four minutes, 15.04 seconds. Her time was more than two seconds ahead of the next competitor, Jessica Ashwood of Australia. Canadian Tera Van Beilen of Oakville, Ont. was fourth in the event.

Gabor then joined the Canadian four by 50 relay team for a gold medal finish with teammates Lauren Earp and Brittany MacLean, both of Toronto, and Chantal Van Landeghem of Winnipeg.

The Canadian men's team made up of Chad Bobrosky, James Kendrik, Karl Wolk, all of Calgary, and Jeremy Bagshaw of Victoria, also took first in the four by 50-m relay.

Gabor followed up her Team Canada win with a silver medal in the 50-m freestyle, finishing in 27.01 seconds. Behind her was Julie Calvert of Oakville, Ont. in seventh place.

Both Gabor and coach Marek Poplawski are in Australia for the competition that runs until Saturday.
