Jessica Frotten, the Yukon wheelchair racing star raced to four medals at the national championships in Edmonton last weekend.

Frotten, who races in the T53 category, picked up silver in the 100-metre dash, behind Ilana Dupont in a time of 19:44.

She also picked up silver in the 200-metre dash (33:63). Frotten actually finished third in the event, but behind Jessica Lewis in second, who isn’t a Canadian citizen and therefore doesn’t qualify for medals at Canadian championships.

The 200 has been dropped from the Paralympic schedule for Rio 2016.

Her two bronze medals came in the 400 and 800.

Frotten, who races for the Saskatoon Cyclones Racing Club, attended the Para Pan Am Games in Toronto last summer, picking up two bronze medals in the 100 and 400.

Nationals in Edmonton also doubled as the Olympic and Paralympic trials, with the Olympic team named Monday. The Paralympic team is expected to be named later this month.

The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games run Sept. 7 to 18 in Brazil.

Frotten hopes to wear the Canadian jersey once again, but is unsure if her performances were enough. It’ll be up to the coaches and performance directors to decide on the team.
