Yukon para-wheelchair racer Jessica Frotten took another step towards achieving her Paralympic dream last week.
Yukon para-wheelchair racer Jessica Frotten took another step towards achieving her Paralympic dream last week.
The 26-year-old Frotten, who trains out of Regina, is now receiving monthly athletic funding from Sport Canada after cracking the national para-athletics development team.
“I’m carded at the development level,” she explained. “The senior team is the next tier of carding, but even at the development level, I think I have a pretty good shot at making the Pan Ams team and the worlds team.”
Frotten has rocketed up the ranking charts in her sport, and is currently ranked ninth in the world for the 100-metre race, she said.
Her world rankings helped propel her onto Sport Canada’s radar.
“It’s really awesome to get recognized,” Frotten said today. “I didn’t think it would happen so fast, but I’m really excited and am going to work really hard to make those teams.”
