FAIRBANKS – The Yukon added 12 more medals to its collection yesterday, for a total of 60.

The territory leads fifth-place Northwest Territories by five medals in the ulu standings, while host Alaska continues to dominate with 146 medals, including 46 gold.

Alongside Team Wallinghamʼs menʼs curling gold, four individual athletes also claimed the precious colour in competition Thursday.

Alpine skier Josie Storey won the junior female Kombi event, snowshoe biathlete Daniel Sennett bested the field in the three-km juvenile male race, snowboarder Haylie Grant took the Arctic Air competition for juvenile women, and biathlon skier Nadia Moser picked up her third gold medal of the Games in the 7.5-km individual sprint.

Six athletes earned silver ulus yesterday, including Fayne OʼDonovan in the one foot high leg kick, Maria Peters in the ski biathlon 7.5-km race, snowboarders Adam Waddington and Esa Suominen in the Arctic Air event, and speedskaters Michael Ritchie and Shea Hoffman in the 666-m and 777-m races, respectively.

The Yukonʼs duo of twin mushing sisters, Lori and Louve Tweddell, also got on the board in their final event, claiming a bronze in the four-dog, 7.5-km race.

Competition at the Arctic Winter Games runs until Saturday, when the tournament will wrap up with closing ceremonies.
