FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. On Friday, August 18, some of the best young hockey players in the North will be hitting the ice in Fort St. John, B.C.

A few will be returning from last year, some will have tried out in the past, and for some this will be their first time ever. One thing is certain though, and that is that they will all be fighting for a spot on the NEBC Tracker Flyers.

There is no doubt the AAA midget club has developed some great players and this year will be no different. Playing in the RAMMHL has given many of them the opportunity to move on to junior, college, university, WHL and OHL tryouts.

Where are some of these players now? Kyle Leahy, Reid Campbell (Yukon) and Evan Karambelas all played for the junior A Powell River Kings of the BCJHL last season. Defenseman Taylor Rovatti also played junior A in the BCJHL for the Quesnel Millionaires.

Brennan Billy spent last season playing for the Prince George AAA midget regional Cougars, a team affiliated with the WHL's Prince George Cougars.

Cam McKinnon (Yukon) and Dylan Apsassin have also both been scouted by many junior A teams throughout B.C. and Alberta.

Adam Henderson (Yukon) played in the AJHL for the junior A Spruce Grove Saints last year and has accepted a full scholarship to Michigan State for the 2008 season.

Neil Chambers (Yukon), who had a very successful year with the Flyers last year, also has a guaranteed spot on the Saints, but has been invited to camps for the Oshawa Generals (OHL) and the Tri-City Americans (WHL).

There will be two new faces behind the bench this year in head coach Vern Isberg and assistant Cam Carruthers. They have both coached and played at high levels, been involved with the rep hockey system for the last few years, and shown great success with their respective teams.

They have a coaching philosophy which involves full commitment and respect from each and everyone with the privilege of playing on this team. With a philosophy like this there is only one way the team can go, and that is up.

The NEBC Tracker Flyers, coach Isberg and coach Carruthers are hoping to get all midget eligible players in the North Peace and surrounding area to the Fort St. John Receation Centre for evaluation camp on Aug. 18.

Who knows what the future could hold? Considering the resume of the alumni of the team the sky is the limit. NCAA, BCJHL, WHL, OHL, maybe even one day every players dream ... the NHL.
