Whitehorse Mustangs fans will be treated to three straight games Friday night for a fund-raising event, which will be held at Takhini Arena.

The first-ever Mustangs Hockey Night in Whitehorse will feature one game played by the peewee, bantam and midget teams.

All of the proceeds raised will be donated towards covering the travel costs that are involved for the three teams when they compete in Outside tournaments.

"We want to showcase the Mustangs hockey club and the quality of the hockey that the players are engaging in and offer a little bit of a fund-raiser to help offset the cost of travel and ice fees," said Gerry Perrier, director of the Whitehorse Mustangs Hockey Club. "It's a very expensive sport."

Admission to all three games is free, however, there will be a donation bin by the entrance. The first game will be between the PeeWee Mustangs, who will take on the Bantam Selects at 6:15 p.m.

The peewee's game will be followed by a Whitehorse Recreational Hockey League B divisional game that will feature the Micmac Bantam Mustangs versus Castle Rock, starting at 7:45 p.m.

Friday's event will conclude with a rec. A divisional game between the Midget Mustangs and the Terra Firma Muckers. The final game is scheduled for 9:15 p.m.

Mustangs Hockey Night in Whitehorse was organized by the three team managers on the peewee, bantam and midget squads.

Besides the hockey, a silent action will be held, opening at 6:15 p.m. Some of the items at the silent auction include a recliner from X press Furniture and Mattresses, Mustangs' jerseys and a couple of local pieces of artwork.

Mustangs Hockey Night will also feature a 50/50 draw, raffle tickets, a loonie stick and a radar shot competition.

At least 20 raffle baskets will be given out, while the loonie stick will feature two sticks, one left handed and one right handed.

Individuals pay $2, one loonie goes towards the Mustangs program, while the other is taped to one of the sticks. The winner of the draw for a stick not only gets to keep the stick, but all of the loonies that are taped to it as well.

Three prizes will be given out for the radar shot, which is going to be divided up into three age groups, being under 10 years old, 11 to 13, and 14 and over. The hardest shot in each age category wins a prize.

"We are hoping it will a good event and lots of people will come and enjoy a night of hockey," said fund-raising co-ordinator Erin McCarthy.

The Takhini concession stand will be open during Mustangs Hockey Night, which will include food such as Shirley's famous fries.

Perrier said these events are really helpful for the Mustangs program.

"It is absolutely helpful for us," he said. "The generosity of the community is critical to the success of any program like this."

He said there is a possibility of this becoming an annual tradition.

"It's like our alumni game; if it's a success and we have a good turnout and a positive reception then we can make this an annual thing."
