The Brew too strong for Pepsi

Yukon Brewing carried on their quest to win the 'double' of league and playoff champions, with a hard-fought 5-3 victory over Pepsi.

On paper Yukon Brewing should’ve had an easy game, but Pepsi put their best performance of the season, fighting like tigers and going toe to toe with the best team in the league.

The Brew had the lead at half time, and looked to close out the win, but Pepsi's heavy hitters came to the fore, with Danny Macdonald, Simon Pulido and JP Ladroue all scoring.

The Brew's superstars held their nerve and kept their team in front until the final whistle. There were two goals from the excellent Guliano Rayo, and one apiece for Jeff Ford, Leonard Linklater and Jim Connell.

Mamadou fires Tony's Pizza to victory

Mamadou Togola was the difference between the sides as Tony's Pizza overcame Klondike Business Solutions 7-5 in the second playoff game.

Mamadou had too much pace and power for the KBS defenders, and the score could have been higher if not for the agility of Charlie Hoeller in the KBS net.

Tony's were cruising at 7-2 with three goals from Togola, two from Gord Barker and one each for Eric Murphy and Adil Khalik.

With only five minutes to go, KBS woke up and scored three goals in quick succession, leaving Tony's with a few nervous moments but not enough to change the outcome.

Scorers for the boys in blue were Larry White (2), Jim Brown, Andy Todd and Travis Schommer.

Yukon Brewing will face Tony’s Pizza in the gold medal game March 4 at 10:15 a.m., while KBS and Pepsi will play for bronze at 9 a.m. at the CGC.

The Over 35 soccer report is prepared by Andy Todd.
