Before the final Hot Hounds event of the season, there is already a clear winner.

The Dog Powered Sports Association of the Yukon (DPSAY) has announced its last race of the summer will benefit the Mae Bachur Animal Shelter.

Alongside the usual summer mushing activities such as bikejoring and canicross, the event will include a poker run/walk with prizes including a pair of Air North flights, a half day of dog sledding for two people with Muktuk Adventures, and a $200 gift certificate to the Sky High Wilderness Ranch. A barbecue will follow.

Cost to participate in the poker run is $15. A poker run sees participants visit five to seven checkpoints, drawing a playing card at each one. The object is to have the best poker hand at the finish line.

The event will be held in the Ibex Valley Sept. 27 at 3 p.m.
