Ramesh Ferris has been chosen to represent the Yukon in the Para Nordic Nationals in Canmore, Alta.

Ferris will be competing in two back to back 2.5-kilometre sit-ski races on Feb. 27 and 28 as a development athlete.

The national para-nordic championships will bring together the best para-nordic athletes in the country, along with elite athletes from Russia and the U.S. who will be using the races as a tune-up for the Vancouver Paralympic Games in March.

Hosted by the Canmore Nordic Club, the Para Nationals are expected to attract around 50 athletes.

Ferris, best known for his 7,100-km Cycle to Walk journey across Canada last summer, had never been on a sit-ski before November.

The 28-year-old is looking forward to working with other para-nordic athletes and coaches and will use the competition as an opportunity to pick up tips to help his skiing.

This will be the first time ever that Cross Country Yukon has sent an athlete to the national para championships.
