It was an unlikely victory Thursday night at the Mountain View Golf Course – Feature Foods, who have been battling for two decades to finish first in the Men's Commercial Golf League, finally got their hands on the trophy.
The team managed to beat Missing Links in match play after heading into the final game with only 79 points to Missing Link's 90.
Team captain Malcom McLellan was happy with the win after the game, as the rest of his team comprised of Ron Kulych, Barry Davidson and Eamonn Cambell, set off to the club house to celebrate their win. Spare Gary Acorn was absent from Thursday night's game.
"Finally, to win is nice,” McLellan said.
Finally is the appropriate word – Feature Foods has been trying to nab the top spot at the Commercial Golf League for about two decades, the team said.
"It was a really enjoyable win,” said McLellan.
Feature Foods came into contention after the September 10 playoff game, when they beat MacKay LLP after a 4-4 tie breaker.
Missing Links took their game against Northern Knights 6-2, sending the two teams to the final game against each other.
The final score Thursday was 5-3 in match play for Feature foods after they won twice, tied once and lost once.
Missing Links was made up of Pat Michaels, who presented the trophy to the winning team, Michael Brooks, Vic Istchenko and Al Fozard.
Teams were awarded points throughout the season, starting in July. One point was awarded for a tie and two for a win.
The final game was played on holes one through nine.
