The Nuway Crushing Whitehorse Huskies have teamed up with Yukon Yamaha to give hockey fans an opportunity to win a Yamaha YXZ1000R side-by-side valued at over $26,000.
Every admission to a Huskies game on Jan. 8, 9, and 22 is a chance to win one of three spots in a shoot-to-win contest taking place during an intermission when the Huskies host the Powell River Regals Jan. 23.
The Huskies return to action this weekend taking on the North Island Capitals from Port Hardy, B.C., in what head coach Michael Tuton promises to be another thriller of a series.
“Both teams have lots of scoring power and our first matchup should help to prepare us on our quest for the Coy Cup,” he said in a press release.
Fans can secure their seat and contest entry by buying a weekend pass, currently available for $20 at Sport Yukon, Takhini Arena, Goody’s Gas, Casa Loma, Kopper King, The Ridge, Sandor’s, Yukon Yamaha, Midnight Sun Coffee, and Nuway Crushing.
Single game admission is $10 at the gate, or $5 for Whitehorse minor hockey players who wear their jersey to the game.
This weekend’s games versus the Capitals will go Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
The Huskies are also slated to host the Powell River Regals with games Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. and Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. All games are at Takhini Arena.
The Huskies will enter this weekend’s games with the core of their roster intact.
Former captain Jared Tuton will make his season debut on the blue-line, while Gibson Pearson also draws in on the back end.
Last season’s leading scorer Adam Henderson will also return from the injury list, said Tuton.
The Huskies are currently in their second season chasing the Coy Cup, awarded annually to B.C.’s AA senior hockey champion.
The 2016 Coy Cup championship will be held in Terrace, B.C., March 22 to 26.
The Central Interior Hockey League’s Terrace River Kings will host the event, after finishing second to the champion Fort St. John Flyers last season. The Flyers eliminated the Huskies in a two-game playoff.
