Elementary badminton tourney draws around 180 students
Approximately 180 students took part in this year's Yukon Schools Athletic Association Badminton Tournament, hosted at both Elijah Smith and Takhini Elementary schools.
Approximately 180 students took part in this year's Yukon Schools Athletic Association Badminton Tournament, hosted at both Elijah Smith and Takhini Elementary schools.
The competition was open to Grade 6 and 7 students, who competed in boys singles, girls singles, boys, doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles.
At Elijah Smith School, a round-robin format was used and the top two schools in each pool qualified for the playoffs.
Students needed to win two games before a match was over. Individual games used a rally point system, awarding a point after ever serve. All games went up to 15.

Tia Oster and Emily Hume won a gold medal for Hidden Valley in the girls doubles category.
Trent Pumphrey and Jarrett Malchow won gold in the boys doubles category.
Pumphrey and Malchow attend Christ the King Elementary.
Hidden Valley mixed team Teah Dickson and Dominic Korn won gold in the mixed doubles category.
Hidden Valley also had success in the boys singles. Peter Joe Jensen took top spot.
Takhini Elementary Results
Thanks to the play of Chanel Newell and Darlene Lauveano, Holy Family won gold in the girls doubles event, while fellow schoolmates Andrew Hunter and Noah Kitchen finished on top in the boys doubles.
Jack Hulland's Tamara Greek and Andrew Scoffin finished in first place in the mixed doubles category, while Whitehorse Elementary swept the boys and girls events.
Benjamin Grundmanis placed first in the boys, while Sara Burke-Forsyth won the girls division.
