ElderActive association holds winter competition

The ElderActive Recreation Association held their second annual winter competition Jan. 15 and 16 at the Canada Games Centre.

The ElderActive Recreation Association held their second annual winter competition Jan. 15 and 16 at the Canada Games Centre. There were teams from Atlin, Faro, Teslin, Tagish and Whitehorse participating in both carpet bowling and floor shuffleboard.

Carpet bowling had 10 teams competing over the two days with two members from each team playing floor shuffleboard during the breaks against the six registered floor shuffleboard teams. The competition ended with a banquet and awards ceremony at the Golden Age Society on the Saturday evening. Carpet bowling

First place ($400) – "Devil's Advocate” (Ken Burke, Terry Coventry, Jo Hopkins, Roddy Dale, Tom Parlee)

Second place ($200) – "Ding Bats” (Judy Lightening, Rose McPhail, Marj Deeks, Michael Brauer)

Third place ($100) – "Atlin High Rollers” (Vera Kirkwood, Pat Logan, Ev Colwell, Dorothy Odian, Diane Stephens)

Floor shuffleboard (16 teams)

First place tie ($75) – Team 11 (June Raymond & Eileen Boyle)

First place tie ($75) – Team 13 (Ray Magnuson & John Hull)

Third place ($25) – Team 15 (Muriel MacMorine & Stan Fuller)

Floor shuffleboard (6 teams)

First place tie ($100) – Team 14 (Peggy Duncan & Cookie Morgan)

First place tie ($100) – Team 15 (Muriel MacMorine & Stan Fuller)

Third place ($50) – Team 11 (June Raymond & Eileen Boyle)

At the end of the tournament some members donated their winnings back and other members gave personal donations that totalled $775 that was given to the Haiti Relief Fund sponsored by Red Cross.
