A large turnout of 80 people came out to enjoy a beautiful evening of orienteering on the Yukon College map.
Starting from the Porter Creek side, at the end of Pine Street, the event was a "Score O".
Controls or markers had different values depending on their proximity to the start/finish location. Participants were able to take the controls in any order but it was important to be back within the time allowed of 45 minutes.
For each minute over this time, 10 points were deducted from the total.
Sara Nielsen was unable to collect a valuable 30 points when she saw a black bear heading in the same direction she wanted to go, while the moose in McIntyre Creek did not affect Dave Sharp's time.
Some notable results were achieved this evening. World Junior Canadian Orienteering team members, Colin Abbott and Lee Hawkings were just off the plane from Sweden.
Jet lag didn't seem to affect their performances as they sped round and collected the maximum number of points in just 37:52 and 42:18 respectively. Ross Burnett also earned the 420 points in 43:09.
Members of the Yukon Junior Squad continue to impress. Great results were seen by Trevor Bray earning 190 points, Cheylsea Mitchell with 160, Pia Blake and Kerstin Burnett each with 150, and Leif Blake and Marek Boulerice working together to collect 80 points.
Of particular note was the introduction of the third generation of orienteering Persons. Eight-week old River Pearson, daughter of Lake and Anna, joined in from the comfort of her baby carrier.
Special thanks go to the members who pitched in to make this meet happen: Karen McKenna, Grant Abbott, Bruce McLean, Dave Sharp, Wendy Taylor, and Cheylsea, Kate and Taylor Mitchell.
