Charles Brodhagen’s late goal Sunday helped EDI start the new year right where they had left off.

The top old-timer hockey team in Whitehorse edged Medicine Chest 4-3 at Takhini Arena, as league play resumed following the holiday break.

Tim Turner-Davis, Al Kochl and Bryce Bekar also scored for EDI, which leads the league with a record of 16-3-3.

Shawn Kinsella, Elgin Schwantz and Jeff O’Farrell responded for Medicine Chest in the loss, but Brodhagen’s late-game tally proved to stand up as the winner.

Second-place Tim Hortons lost their first game of 2016, despite a four-goal performance from Mike Blower.

Cellar-dwelling Air North pulled off a rare win, 5-4, thanks to goals from Andrew Smith, Jeff Jensen, Kirk Price, Rick Smith and Doug Janzen, who got the game-winner with 20 seconds left to play.

Yukon Inn also won a one-goal game, 6-5 over Kilrich.

Each of Adam Green, Blayne Monahan and Rick Seaman had two goals, while Rick Gingell added four helpers in the victory.

Dave Ecker, Ron Sumanik, Ron Cruikshank, Sean McLeish and Gerry Rivest had Kilrich’s markers.

In other action, the Firth Rangers downed the AON Flames 4-2 on goals by Mike Knutson, Stu Mackay, Peter Mostyn and Phil Borgel.

Greg Lane and Rick Moses replied for AON.
