The Filipino Canadian Basketball League of Yukon’s 13th season continued with another exciting game in the Women’s Division Sunday at the Canada Games Centre.

Miranda, coming off a thrilling 66-64 overtime victory the week prior against Philkon, was back in action against Earls Restaurant.

Earls jumped out to an early lead that they did not relinquish to take the matchup 62-44.

In the first, Earls made it a point to get out and running. Off of rebounds and inbound plays, Earls was looking to make the quick outlet pass to get out in transition.

This game-plan proved successful, as they were able to break the Miranda defence and get easy buckets. When their offence had to play in the half court, Earls made crisp passes to cutters who were able to cash in their layups.

Miranda, once they got their legs under them, also looked to attack in transition.

They had their opportunities but they weren’t able to get the ball to drop at a decent rate.

The missed opportunities allowed Earls to grow a decent but not insurmountable lead in the first quarter. However, as the game progressed those early misses proved to be the difference.

Lianne Fordham led Earls Restaurant in scoring netting 14 points. Sam Demchuck and Tricia Rumbaoa both potted 10.

Nicole Farkas led Miranda and all scorers with 24 points. Tishalyn Siosan, who hit last week’s game-winning bucket in overtime, added 10.

Both Earls and Miranda will get well acquainted over the next several weeks. The two teams will begin the best-of-three championship series next Sunday at the Canada Games Centre.

The FCBLY’s 13th season was put on hold because of COVID-19 in March.

Basketball players in the league won’t have to wait to long for the 14th season to begin. It is tentatively slated to begin in late February.
