A strong second period helped the Klondyke Dental Molars come back from a one-goal deficit in their game against the AON Flames.

The Dental Molars scored five goals in the frame and limited their opponents to only one to secure a 7-4 victory on Wednesday's game in the Oldtimers Hockey League.

'We just seemed to get extra energy there in the middle,' said Adam Green, a forward on the Klondyke Dental Molars. 'We just picked it up and were able to get the extra legs and it paid off.'

The Dental Molars might have been the team that finished strong, but the flames that were the ones who came out with the momentum. AON didn't waste any time and less than one minute into the game forward, Pat Campbell, scored a goal that could have been on any highlight reel in the country. Campbell streaked in all alone and out weighted Molars' goalie, Zvonko Jovanovic, sliding the puck behind on the sprawled out netminder

The flames weren't done. Just over five minutes later, they struck again with another goal by Campbell, who was quick to put in a rebound on a down and out Jovanovic.

The Dental Molars came right back though, scoring less than four minutes later.

This goal didn't faze the Flames a bit, who restored their two-goal lead after Aubyn Coad capitalized on a chance that was created after the puck was dumped into the zone and came out from around the boards.

Once again, AON's two-goal lead would be short-lived after Dental Molars' player Martin O'Hagan scored just 14 seconds later. O'Hagan put the puck in from right out in front of the net, after the Flames goalie made the initial stop, but couldn't control the rebound.

AON gave it their all in an attempt to replenish the two-goal advantage and put all kinds of pressure on both Jovanovic as well as his defencemen. In the last two minutes of the frame, AON had control of the puck for a significant amount of time in Klondyke's zone and sent a barrage of shots at the Dental Molar goaltender, but Jovanovic stood his ground, ensuring his team wouldn't be down by more than one-goal at the end of the first.

Jovanovic's great play seemed to breathe some added life into the Dental Molars, who came out in the second frame with a lot of jump. It took the team less than two minutes to draw even with AON, on a goal by Ross Phillips.

Klondyke would add another and take their first lead of the game after Adam Green scored at the 20-minute mark of the frame.

After a few nice saves made by Jovanovic, Klondyke increased their lead to two at two on a shot inside the blue line that got by Flames goalie, Jeff Kalles, along with several other players on both teams who were positioned right out in front of the net.

AON made it close again on another goal by Campbell, which gave him a hat trick in the game, but with less than three minutes to go in the game, the Dental Molars scored the biggest goal of game on a breakaway by Phillips, who tucked it into the net off his backhand.

Green added one more goal for his team with just over a minute to go in the game to put the contest out of reach.

Green, who scored both goals after missing the first period, laughed when asked if his teammates were glad when he showed up, commenting 'I felt like a celebrity.'

He thought, despite the victory snapping a losing streak for the team, it wasn't really a must win.

'I think there is only four games that matter and that is the last four,' Green said. 'Everyone makes the playoffs.'

Pat Campbell, a forward on AON, said despite the loss, he thought there were a lot of positives about his team's play in the game.

'We had a really strong game moving the puck, but it is a forty-four minute game and we are a solid thirty minute team,' he said. 'We just couldn't keep it going in the end.'

He said the game just came down to missed opportunities, adding 'not for a lack of trying.'

'We have a solid team,' Campbell said. 'We need more shots on net and when the rebound goes our way, we will start seeing more goals and hopefully more wins.'

Campbell said he was pleased with his team's performance, regardless of the loss.

'I am always pleased, I just love being on the ice,' he said. 'It's the best part, win or lose.'

In other Oldtimers Hockey League action, the Firth Rangers edged out the Performance Centre Turbos by a score of 4-3.

Ron Sumanik led the way with two goals and one assist, while Gerry Rivest also had a great game scoring one goal and adding three assists.

Other notables included Joel Witten who scored once and added one assist, while Carl Burgess and Derrick Hynes each added an assist in the win.

Glen Heinbigner, Gord Campbell and Paul Sahagian each scored one goal

Don Morrison and Bryan Alp each finished with two assists, while Grant Lyons and Matt Sills ended the game with one assist each.
