After spending parts of three days laying out the route, Josh De La Salle went on to win Saturday’s enduro fat race Saturday at Mount Sima.

There wasn’t much competition.

After pushing their bikes up the Whitehorse ski hill together, De La Salle beat his lone competitor and friend Robert Kunde to the hill’s base by more than three minutes.

De La Salle’s finishing time was eight minutes 45 seconds, while Kunde’s ride took 12:35.

Despite a solid group of volunteers on hand for the event, only two competitors took part in the final fat bike race of the year.

The race was sanctioned by the Contagious Mountain Bike Club, whose Facebook group boasts 880 members.

The event began just after 10 a.m. The trail began at the observation deck located near the top of Dan’s Descent and saw participants manoeuvre through a long wooded section featuring several small hills.

The route eventually gave way to open slope allowing riders to sprint their way to the finish.

De La Salle competed on a fat bike while Kunde rode a mountain bike.
