The installation of artificial ice surfaces at the Art and Margaret Fry Recreation Centre in Dawson City is complete.

The new ice surface will mean a longer season for hockey and curling, with less reliance on cold weather early in the season.

“We no longer need to worry so much about the weather outside,” said City of Dawson recreation manager, Marta Selassie. “The new system will consistently maintain our ice for the duration of our arena season.”

According to a press release, Dawson City normally hosts seven or eight tournaments or bonspiels from Jan. to March. And they expect to be able to host more events in the future thanks to the new ice.
