Dawson City won a bid to host the 2021 World Gold Panning Championships, the Klondike Visitors Association announced today.

“The event is a natural fit for the Klondike and will be great for visitation to our area,” said Paul Robitaille, marketing and events manager with the KVA.

The championships are scheduled from Aug. 24 to 28 in 2021. It’s expected to attract between 300 and 400 visitors to the Yukon and Alaska for an average of three weeks, the KVA said.

This will be the fifth time Dawson City has hosted the World Gold Panning Championships.

They were last in the Klondike in 2007.

The event was held in Moffat, Scotland this year.
