The holiday season is coming to an end, however, the Yukon’s Dylan Cozens playing in the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Edmonton continues to give Yukoners something to celebrate.

Team Canada continued its repeat-quest for gold Saturday in quarter-final action against the Czech Republic. The Canadians downed the Czech’s 3-0.

Cozens potted Canada’s first goal at 8:22 of the first period. Connor McMichael added the assist.

It didn’t take long for Canada to grow its lead to two. Bowen Byram netted the second goal, Peyton Krebs and Cozens assisted.

The Canadians also gave the country something to cheer about on New Year’s Eve. In the final game of round-robin play, Team Canada played Finland – the second-place team in Group A.

It what was being touted as Canada’s toughest test of the tournament thus far, the Canadians passed with flying colours. They downed the Fins 4-1.

Cozens scored unassisted at the 3:49 mark of the first period to give Canada a 1-0 lead early. Then, in the waning moments of the third, he sealed the victory by scoring an unassisted, empty-net goal.

Canada will be back in action today in the Edmonton bubble against Russia. The semifinal game will be a rematch of 2020’s world junior gold medal contest which Canada took 4-3 in spectacular fashion.

Russia finished second in Group B behind the U.S.A with eight points. The Russians defeated Germany 2-1 to reach the semifinal game against Canada.

The other semifinal game today will be the U.S.A versus Finland.

Canada remains the only undefeated team in the tournament.

Cozens is second in the tournament in points with 13, seven goals and six assists. American Trevor Zegras sits first in points at 15, six goals, nine assists. German Tim Stutzle is third with 10 points, five goals, and assists.
