The Copper Haul Twister League is at it again.

The league, sponsored by Yukon Brewing, will hold its first winter dog races at Icy Waters (the Arctic Charr Farm on Fish Lake Road) 10 a.m. Sunday.

Entry fee costs $10; first place will receive $50 plus a share of the entry fees.

"So the more people that race, the bigger the first five prizes are, and we try to make sure that every other person that enters gets a merchandise prize from other local sponsors,” organizer Jon Lucas said, noting that the first race is sponsored by Alpine Vet.

The weekend's run will be the first of six league races throughout the season.

At the end of the season, the mushers' top four races will be tallied up based on a point system throughout the year – 10 points for first, two points for fifth – to receive prize money, $250 for first and $50 for fifth.

Note: to be eligible for the prize money mushers must volunteer for one race.Lucas said the league is meant for training and fun.

"You can come to one of these races and mess up or your dogs can really mess up and you don't have to wait a year to go to the race again, there's one next month.”
