With groupings decided by the flip of a disc the scene was set for a clash of the disc golf titans at the Mt. Mac Disc Golf Course Tuesday.
League leader Jesse Devost and leadership contender Matthew Grant squared off in action accompanied by fellow disc golf heavy weights Dan "Powerhouse” Reimer and Carl Pearce.
Second place Grant got off to a rocky start with a bogie on the first hole while Reimer - the victor in the recent Bushwacker Disc Golf Tournament - and Devost hit the chains for a birdie each.
It was back and fourth action on the front nine with Devost and Reimer each finishing out well below par while Grant came in dead even after battling back from a brutal first four holes.
Reimer and Devost's scores parted company on the back nine as Devost, famous for his consistency, capitilized on some key mistakes by Reimer. Grant began to pickup the pace on Devost and was able to bypass Reimer with birdies on 11, 13, 15 and 17 on the back nine to end up in tie with Devost who each carded -4 overall. Some tough luck for Reimer dropped him to -1 for the night tied with "Music Man” Howard Chymy.
Vince Federoff, aka the Man in Purple, finished at a surprising +2 for the night.
Finally giving into the countless pieces of fan mail and phone calls due to his increasing fame, Devost is set to go on a disc signing tour in B.C.'s gulf islands over the next few weeks so the door has swung open for Grant to score some points and slide into the leadership spot.
