Three straight wins have catapulted Cinderwood into the top spot in the Whitehorse Summer Hockey League standings
The team will try to make it four in a row tonight at the Canada Games Centre when it takes on Ketza for a second straight time.
Cinderwood won its previous game against Ketza on Monday thanks to a last minute goal by Jay Glass, who was in the right place at the right time, jamming the puck into the net after a shot by Kane Dawe was blocked. The final score was 6-5.
Monday was also a favourable night for EBA, which won its first contest of the season, beating Casa Loma 6-5. EBA needed six attempts in a shootout to get the victory, but it was well worth the wait for a team that benefitted from the return of number one goaltender Brad Gustafson.
Gustafson was attending a Western Hockey League training camp in Medicine Hat, where he signed a contract with the Tigers earlier in the year.
On Monday, EBA was losing 5-4 with a minute left, but managed to tie it up. The winning shot in the shootout was put in by Brett Roulston, who sent a quick snap shot into the top corner of the net. Gustafson blocked the next shot to seal the team's win.
The top two Whitehorse Summer Hockey League squads will play each other in Monday's final, while third and fourth face off for bronze.
Currently, the standings are very close with Cinderwood leading the way with a 3-1 record. Casa Loma and Ketza both sit at 2-2, while EBA is 1-3.
"The skill is picking up," said league organizer Joe Martin. "It's pretty even now; it didn't start off even, but now it's even. Teams are really playing hard together, it's good clean hockey and the kids are getting what they need to move on for the fall."
On Thursday, EBA will take on Casa Loma in the final game of the regular season.

The RCMP also made an appearance, teaching the kids about leadership and respect.
