Ernest Chua has been selected to represent Canada at the 2019 Special Olympic World Summer Games in the United Arab Emirates as part of the swim team.
Special Olympics Canada made the announcement Thursday afternoon.
The 28-year-old won gold this summer in the 50-metre at the 2018 national summer games in Antigonish, N.S.
Serge Michaud, executive director of Special Olympics Yukon, said this morning Chua was chosen because of his performance in Antigonish.
He will be the only Yukon athlete to represent Canada in Abu Dhabi, he pointed out.
Michaud said Chua will also become the first Yukon Special Olympian to represent the country at both the world summer and winter games.
Chua was with Team Canada as a cross country skier at the 2017 Special Olympic World Winter Games in Austria.
