The Canadian Filipino Sports Association of Yukon (CFSAY) ended their second sports season on May 4 at Vanier Catholic Secondary School. The night featured a volleyball match and two basketball games. Once the clock hit zero on the final contest, a closing ceremony was held where the season's top athletes were honoured with their individual awards.

The over-35 basketball game began the evening's festivities. The ALS Minerals tipped-off against the MGC team.

It was a very entertaining game, and the entire crowd was into it. With every basket scored and defensive play made, the crowd erupted in cheers and screams.

The MGC side took early control of the game, getting points in a variety of ways. They were hitting their shots from behind the arc. They attacked the basket in the half-court for buckets at the hoop and they forced turnovers to get out in transition for more easy points.

At the half-time buzzer, they had a substantial lead but the third and fourth told a different story as ALS came roaring back.

The ALS Minerals found their legs and clamped down on defence, forcing turnovers and turning defence into uncontested offence. Their shots from the outside began to find their mark and in their half-court sets they were able to drive and get points at the basket, and when the defence collapsed, they kicked the ball out to the hot hands of the shooters.

The crowd, which by every measure would be considered a lively bunch, amped up the volume in the second half – the gym was deafening.

The Minerals took the lead in the third and did not look back as they cruised to the over-35 championship.

The under-35 teams headlined the evening's festivities. Tri Omni outlasted Home Hardware to become the CFSAY basketball champions. The third runner-up was the Air North team.

The CFSAY volleyball champion was NVD Frontrow who downed the Powerhouse Team for the title.

Third place was won by Victorious Secret (props to the name) who defeated Shirley@coldwellbanker.

The male volleyball MVP was Stephen Masih. The female MVP honours were given to Krisha Rubio.
