Muddy, wet conditions played a large factor in finishing times at the Canadian National Cross Country Championships in Vancouver this weekend.

Two Whitehorse-based runners competed in the event, with Lindsay Carson finishing fourth overall in the senior women's category, and Logan Roots placing 46th in the senior men's.

Carson, a newcomer to Whitehorse, ran the seven-kilometre course in 25:09.99 and qualified to represent Canada at the 2014 NACAC Cross Country Championships in Trinidad and Tobago in February.

The 24-year-old said she would likely decline the invitation however, as the event is not funded and she has recently taken a role with Golder Associates Ltd.

"With my new working situation and wanting to take some down time in the winter ... I probably won't go to these championships,” Carson explained.

Roots, 20, finished his 10-km race in 35:44.41. The runner had spent the past few months in Victoria training for the race.

"I was a little disappointed,” Roots said. "It was definitely not where I wanted to be. It was pouring rain and muddy as anything ... I think one of the things that really threw me off was the conditions.”
