It's been a lot of work, but the Carmacks Wheelbarrel Association is set to hold it's second annual Relay for Cancer Sunday.

The 2008 relay attracted seven teams. However, this year is set to be even bigger and wheelbarrel association president John Laughlin expects 20 teams to take part. He added this year's relay should be better.

"People know what it is now and the interest has just grown and that's from sponsors to people that give donations," Laughlin said. "When people start phoning you to make pledges and make donations and support you it's a big difference than having to bang on doors."

Teams are made up of three people (two adults and a youth, aged five to 12). The adults push the wheelbarrow, while the youth must remain inside the whole time.

The relay takes place in Carmacks, with a start time from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Carmacks' Recreation Centre.

In 2008, the association brought in more than $5,200 and hopes to at least equal that total this year.

The live auction is something the wheelbarrel association put a lot of time into this year. Yukon MP Larry Bagnell will be the head auctioneer and will have no shortage of items to go through. Laughlin estimates there is around 50 different items in this year's auction, which will take place after the relay.

Bushmasters Exploration Services, based out of Vancouver, is the newest sponsor to get on board, which happened earlier in the week, Laughlin said.
