A group of Whitehorse cadets proudly represented the territory at the National Cadet Biathlon Championship in Quebec last week.

Fifteen-year-old Alexandria Duchaine served as the team’s flag-bearer during the opening ceremony of the event, held March 2 to 7 at the Myriam Bédard Biathlon Centre in Valcartier.

Duchaine was joined by three other Yukoners – Kynnan Elliot, 12, Noah Gilbert, 12, and Ashley Lang, 15.

Duchaine was selected as flag-bearer following her excellent performance at the territorial level in the senior category last month.

She said it was a surprise and an honour to get the tap and carry the flag.

“At cadets, biathlon is a great program that teaches you about improving skills and endurance in a friendly, encouraging, team building setting,” said Duchaine.

“You meet amazing people who become lifelong friends.”

A total of 130 young biathletes qualified for the 28th annual cadet championship, including 10 from the North.

Yukon failed to win any medals at the event.
