The staff at Mountain View Golf Club have been busy so far this spring and the way the weather has been it's not likely to change.

"Mother Nature is definitely trying to make up for what she did last year and I appreciate that because her and I had a few long talks this month," said Jeff Wiggins, Mountain View Golf Club's head golf professional.

In addition to some upcoming tournaments, the club is in full swing with its two adult leagues: the commercial men's and ladies.

This year, there are around 115 participants in the women's league, which resumes each Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Some nights are sponsored and can include prizes for things like longest drive and closest to the pin.

The men's league is a little different and includes two divisions: Palmer and Nicklaus. Scores are totaled at the end of every week and added onto a team's overall count.

Leading the Palmer division is MacKay LLP and Northerm Knights. Both teams have 18 points, while Pour Rite Construction and Your Dollar Store With More sit in second with 16 points.

Matco Transportation has sole possession of third with 15 points.

Missing Links has the best score so far in the Nicklaus division. After three weeks of play, the team has accumulated 20 points, while That's A Gimmy Jimmy is in second with 18 points.

Super A and Narrow Gauge each have 16 points and are in third place.

Currently, the club is gearing up to begin its first junior league season, which at the moment has around 30 participants. Tonight, Mountain View plans on holding a meeting to go over some of the starting up details. All of the participants in the junior league have to be club members.

The league couldn't have come at a better time for a select few of the Yukon's junior golfers, who have the opportunity to qualify for the Canada Summer Games.

The 2009 Summer Games are being held in P.E.I. in August. This will be the first time golf is played at the national competition, which has Wiggins excited about the group of Yukon potentials.

"For me personally, I'm looking forward to Canada Games," he said. "Other than a couple of individuals in the past years this is going to be the first time a (Yukon) team goes to a national championship, representing golf. This is a first, so I'm excited to see them get trained this summer by me."

The group currently has seven players, but Wiggins expects it to go up to eight. Tryouts will be held over the next two and a half weeks before three golfers are selected to the team.

Wiggins said the Yukon golf team's main goal is to place in the top 10 at the Canada Summer Games.

"We don't want to go there and finish last and we are not going to," he said. "So that's the goal, we are going to Canada Games and we are coming back with a top 10.

"We are not going to be that 11th place team."
