Bulldogs down Coke in co-ed softball final

For a second straight year Coke and the Complete Concrete Bulldogs met up in the final of the Whitehorse Co-ed Slo-Pitch Softball League's Closing Tournament.
And for a second straight year, the Bulldogs came out on top, winning 18-6.
Both teams seemed destined to meet in the Division Two final, which was played Saturday at the Pepsi Softball Centre's diamond one.
The two squads were once the top two teams in division three before being moved up a category for the 2009 season.
"It's awesome," said Bulldogs coach and player Candi Lewis. "We have worked really hard and we were in C division for three years before this, so it's nice to come in and kick butt in B."
Complete Concrete steamrolled every team it faced in the Closing Tournament, starting off with a 14-2 win over the Terrorizers and then beating Sam N Andy's 15-5. The group received a bye to the final after Dave's Cleaning Service dropped out of the tournament.
The Bulldogs didn't waste anytime establishing an early lead, scoring six runs in the opening inning. Unfortunately for Coke, the team was without regular pitcher Bud Arnold, who dislocated his shoulder in a semi-final win against Faro.
The lead could have been even more lopsided had it not been for a stellar defensive play made by Coke second baseman Karlie Knight.
With only one out, Knight blocked down a liner, tagging out the runner on second and then stepped on the base to record a force out.
The score was 6-2 in the bottom of the third when Complete Concrete had another multi-run inning. The group drove in three more before pitcher Nolan Stonehouse recorded a strikeout to end the inning.
Stonehouse showed his skills at the plate his next at-bat, doubling down the third base line. He would later score on a double by Sam Ouettli. Coke reduced its deficit to four runs by the end of the third inning.
However, Bulldogs' pitcher Amie Cofer didn't allow any more runs to score for the remainder of the contest, which ended prematurely after another big inning by Complete Concrete.
"We definitely love playing Coke because they got bumped up with us from C, so they were always our rivals, but we are all really good friends," said Lewis.
"It would have been nice to beat them today, it really would have, but I think some of our errors and just being anxious caused some runs to come in," said Coke back catcher Pam Arnold. "There's next year."
