The Smoke and Sow Co-Ed invitational tournament at the Canada Games Centre was played out on Friday and Saturday to full stands of supporters, which saw Brian Bruckmans blue team deservedly defeat the F.H. Collins side in the final.

Bruckman’s team were good value for the win, as they came together in their pirate outfits, awards for person of the match and team building emails.

Alejandro Pulido, Kate Carroll and Derek Funk were the first amongst equals for the blue team.

F.H. Collins had their best ever tournament and although they failed to win the ultimate prize, they won many admirers in the way they played with Stephen Doyle, Tavis Sisco, Annie Worth and Mari- Pare Meloche in magnificent form.

The Red team beat White in the 3rd/4th playoff.

They might have been a little disappointed with their final position as they looked the team to beat throughout the tournament.

Mohammed Abasse and Abby Rich were excellent for them.

White, led well by Des McLeod, had some fine results with Matt Murphy and Christina Terpstra as shining lights

The Grey, Black and Green teams battled hard all weekend and had their own highlights which were discusssed extensively at the award ceremony afterwards, as they settled for the minor placings.

Wori Adejobi, Emily Sessford and Morris Prokop played well for their respective teams in a losing cause.

The fast and furious format for the tournament sees teams battling each other for a shortened 16 minute game, which produces some high octane games, but leaves the players tired, smelly and very thirsty. That’s why so much fun was had at the Woodcutters Blanket afterwards.

Bruckman picked up the over 50’s MVP, David Hemmings won the Male MVP, Annie Worth won the womens MVP. Best Save went to Harley Huang. Best goal was won by Kayla McDonald and Sean Macdonald picked up the Toilet trophy for the crappiest play for his open goal miss and his award dinner outfit.
