Boston Pizza advances to rec. hockey final

The Boston Pizza Hawks punched its ticket to this year's Whitehorse Recreational Hockey League's A final Tuesday with a win over the Midget Mustangs.

The Boston Pizza Hawks punched its ticket to this year's Whitehorse Recreational Hockey League's A final Tuesday with a win over the Midget Mustangs.

The Hawks scored five unanswered goals, while Boston Pizza netminder Brian Power recorded a shutout.


Boston Pizza Hawks 5, Midget Mustangs 0

Randy Merkel was the top scorer on Boston Pizza, chipping in a pair of goals and a couple of assists.

The team's remaining scorers Jordan Borgford, Trevor Twardochleb and Bryan Curial.

The Hawks won the series 2-1.


Kwanlin Kanucks 6, Envirolube Oilers 4

Kanucks' player Shawn Kolak's second goal with 26 seconds left on the clock put the game out of reach for the Oilers Tuesday in the ‘B' division.

Harley Bowe also had a two goal game for the Kanucks, while the team's other scorers were Gus Morberg and Jesse Bowe.

Kevin Smith and Dennis Calbery each finished with a pair of assists in Kwanlin's victory.

The win advanced the Kanucks to the 'B' division's final.

Scorers for the Oilers included Al Hansen, Leroy Wolfe, Matt Berdenie and Mark Nelson.


Castlerock 4, Narrow Gauge Contracting 3

Castlerock will take on the Kanucks in game one of the ‘B' divisional final, which will begin tonight at 9 p.m. at the Canada Games Centre.

The team won its game three deciding match on Tuesday, thanks to a thrilling shootout goal by Dale Kulych.

Kulych also scored in regulation, along with teammates Ken Olsen and Tanner Kulych.

Scorers for Narrow Gague were Ryan Sylvestre, Fletcher DeGraff and Dan MacDonald.
