After two building phases, the Whitehorse's mountain bike skills park is set to hold its official opening from 2-6 p.m. this Sunday.

The opening will feature the winner of the Name the Park Contest, demonstrations, music, prizes and a barbecue.

Devon McDiarmid, co-creator of the new park and sales manager at Icycle Sports, said such a facility will put Whitehorse's biking community on the map.

"It's a free park, anyone can go up there,” said McDiarmid, president of the Contagious Mountain Bike Club. "Riders skills are already starting to develop.”

The first phase of building ended last summer, with the completion of the dirt jumps, flow session in the trees and the pump track. The second phase ended last June, when wooden structures such as the drop zone, wall ride, ladders, skinnies and teeter totters were completed.
