Four of the Yukon's biathletes were in Camrose, Alta. this weekend for the Calforex Cup where all had positive runs, with one hitting the podium twice.

Erin Oliver-Beebe placed second in the senior girls sprint race on Saturday, and followed up with a first place finish in a 7.5-kilometre mass start race on Sunday.

"It was great,” said Judy Hartling, who coaches the team.

About 126 athletes were competing at the Calforex Cup.

Joining Oliver-Beebe on the trip was Olivia Findley, Jennifer Curtis and Aryn Clarke, who all had great runs as well.

"We were pleased with what they did,” said Hartling.

The weather was perfect for the Cup, Hartling said. It was -23 in the days leading up to the event, but temperatures rose on race day, making the course fast.

Hartling said her team goes to about three Outside races every year, with the Calforex being their first of the season.

They will also compete at Nationals later this year in Canmore, Alta. and at the Arctic Winter Games.

The results from the first competition of the year are a good indication of things to come for the biathletes.

"They're a great team, they did well,” said Hartling.

The coach said she is happy to see one of her athletes get to the podium out of such a small group.
