BACK HAND – Tyler Nesgaard returns a shot against Lori Muir Thursday evening at the Squash Open Tournament held at the Better Bodies Cross Taining Centre.
Ketza increased their lead of the Tuesday night squash league
Ketza increased their lead of the Tuesday night squash league, and Kumon Learning stepped further ahead of the Thursday night league, as the Better Bodies Cross Training Centre hosts the Squash Open Tournament this weekend.
The tournament began Thursday night and will continue until Saturday, with the final match scheduled for 6 p.m. Today the action picks up at 3:30 p.m.
In the Tuesday night league, Ketza surged past Assante's 216 points with 248 to secure their lead.
The points began piling up for Ketza against North Star Mini Storage with a default win for Jeff Seaman over Cam Webbe followed by a three game snap by Doug Thorseth over alternate Glen Rudman. Thorseth was awarded six points and Rudman earned one.
Ketza alternate Tyler Nesgaard and North Star's Jim Gilpin battled it out, with Nesgaard topping Gilpin 3-2 and scoring five points. Gilpin was awarded three.
Chris Cullingham earned another six points for Ketza when he outplayed Lars Johansson 3-0, bringing the final tally to 17 for Ketza, and four for North Star.
Kilrich and Assante finished in a tie Tuesday with even wins and losses on each side.
Assante's Julien Revel scored six points against Adam Sippell for his 3-1 win. Sippell earned two points.
Kai Knorr of Kilrich won three games to one against Trevor Mead Robins to score six points. Mead-Robbins earned his team two points.
Tim Carroll won the next round for Kilrich 3-1 against Lori Muir to score six points. Muir earned two points.
It seemed the round was going to go to Kilrich, until Peter Mathur of Assante won 3-2 and six points against Kilrich alternate Kenji Tatsumi to tie up the points.
Tatsumi earned two points for Kilrich.
Both teams finished with 16 points overall.
The School of Hard Knocks dominated Yukon Brewing in their round after an early run from Grayson Peters of Yukon Brewing who won 3-1 against Blaine Tessier to score five points.
Tessier earned two points for the match.
The School of Hard Knocks then took over at the hands of Sophia Flather who set the pace with a 3-0 default win over Stephen Grundmanis. Flather scored the full six points.
Terri Cairns followed with six points in a 3-0 win over Gord Starko.
The final round defaulted between Chris Toleman of the School of Hard Knocks and Cam Grandy.
The final score was 14 points for the School of Hard Knocks and five for Yukon Brewing.

In the Thursday night league Kumon Learning pushed their lead to 242 points over the Electrical Shop's 218 last night.
The night started off with the Electrical Shop taking on EMCO.
David Buckler of the Electrical Shop defeated Tara Grandy of EMCO 3-1 in a see-saw victory that saw his win in doubt after the second match went to Grandy. Buckler scored six points to Grandy's two.
Electrical Shop alternate Mya Corder won by default and scored five points against Jennifer Eakins.
Another six points was scored for the Electrical Shop by Anna Lee Jacobsen for her 3-0 domination of Lisa Gudbranson.
Muhammad Idrees of EMCO scored six points in a default win over Andrew Zinck to make his team's points rise to nine.
The Electrical Shop finished with 17 overall.
Sterling Insurance topped Kumon Learning in points last night, despite Kumon's dominance of the league and a tie of wins for the two teams.
Eric Bardin of Kumon scored six points in a 3-1 win over Sterling's Colin Mackenzie, who earned two points.
Kumon's Denise McDiarmid earned six points against Randi Cave in a 3-1 win. Cave earned two points despite her push in the third match, where she won 5-15.
Sterling picked things up with Alexis Hougen scoring six points over Kelly Panchyshyn in a 3-0 win.
Panchyshyn earned no points for Kumon.
Mark Beese of Sterling got the second win for Sterling with his 3-0 win over Will Parker of Kumon. Parker earned one point for his team.
The final score was 16 for Sterling and 13 for Kumon.
Uniglobe Travel was paired with Northern Lights Thursday night, starting with Patti Flather winning 3-1 over Uniglobe's Shahid Syed to earn six points. Syed scored two points.
Jada Kwok got the upper hand for Uniglobe by beating Adrienne Marsh of Nothern Lights 3-1 to score six pints. Marsh earned her team two.
Pam Zinck of Uniglobe and Amy Leach's game was defaulted.
Zain Syed of Northern Lights got the upperhand against Uniglobe alternate Coleman Newell after a 3-2 victory
to score six points. Newell got two
points.
