The 2009 Yukon Weightlifting Championships were held Thursday at the Better Bodies Cross Training Centre.
The 2009 Yukon Weightlifting Championships were held Thursday at the Better Bodies Cross Training Centre.
The championships featured five separate categories, including 94-kg, 105-kg, 69-kg, 74-kg and 75+-kg.
Dan Johnson finished first in the 94-kg class, lifting a best of 67-kg in the snatch and 82-kg in the clean and jerk.
His total with all six lifts was 149-kg.
Johnson's best individual result in the snatch was 17-kg more than second place finisher Bradley Coxford.
Coxford lifted a high of 50-kg in the snatch and 65-kg in the clean and jerk. His total was 115-kg.
Jake Cabott was the lone participant in the 105-kg competition.
He improved on every lift in the snatch, starting with 50-kg and ending with 60-kg.
Cabott's best result in the clean and jerk was 82-kg and his total was 142-kg.
In the womens' 69-kg class, Courtney Sippel finished in the top spot, while second place went to Jodi Tuton.
Sippel finished with a total of 108-kg, with a 45-kg best in the snatch and a 63-kg best in the clean and jerk.
Tuton, meanwhile, had a 38-kg best in the snatch and 48-kg was her top result in the clean and jerk.
She finished with a score of 86-kg.
Lone participant and 2008 Summer Olympian Jeane Lassen won the women's 74-kg class.
Lassen lifted a high of 80-kg in the snatch and 100-kg in the clean and jerk.
She finished with an impressive score of 180-kg.
Lassen's score was tops among all of the categories at the weightlifting championships.
Jelena Antonic placed first in the 75+-kg category. Antonic total 86-kg after her six lifts.
Antonic's best lift in the snatch was 38-kg, while her highest individual lift in the clean and jerk was 50-kg.
With assistance from Optimum Health & Fitness and Better Bodies, Lassen has been offering training services for those interested in the sport of Olympic weightlifting through a program called "LIFT CLUB."
Lassen is also taking new clients seeking personal training through Optimum Health & Fitness's team of trainers.
