The courts at the Better Bodies Cross Training Centre were packed this past weekend for the annual Squash Thaw Tournament.

With six divisions and around 70 players, this was the biggest squash tournament put on at Better Bodies.

Besides the Yukoners, this year's tournament included players from Victoria and Yellowknife.

"It was fun to have all the people come from Outside come to play. It was nice to see an all Whitehorse final though," said Better Bodies squash pro Marie Desmarais. "There was some really close matches."

In addition to the tournament, local squash referees had the opportunity to upgrade their status. Whitehorse resident Lori Muir upgraded and is now a B-level referee.

There were no medals or ribbons given out, however a couple of Air North tickets were drawn as door prizes. The tickets were won by Benjamin Grundmanis and Anna Jacobsen.

The next tournament at Better Bodies is the junior squash championships, which are being held May 22 and 23.

Registration is open and can be done by phoning Desmarais at 633-5245 ext. 4.
