Basketball Yukon chose the team they plan to send to the 2010 Arctic Winter Games in Grande Prairie on Saturday.

About 16 to 18 young men come out to the tryouts held at Vanier Catholic Secondary to try to clinch a spot on the team.

"We were able to select our 10 players and two alternates,” said Tim Brady, one of two coaches participating in the tryouts.

The team will now begin practices ahead of the games, beginning this week.

Brady says he is happy with who was chosen, and who came out.

"We had a good representation of kids,” said Brady.

Many of the players who came out participated in the Canada Summer Games this year.

"I was pretty pleased with the group,” said Brady.

Each individual player battled hard for their spot on the team. The tryouts looked more like a championship game, with each player trying to prove their worth.

"There was great effort and great intensity,” said Brady.

The team will play next month's Road to Gold Tournament, hosted by Basketball Yukon.
