Baldwin earns a trip to mixed nationals

Congratulations go out to the Baldwin rink from Whitehorse, who went undefeated with a record of 6-0 this past weekend in the Yukon/N.W.T. mixed curling championships, which were held at the Whitehorse Curling Club.

Congratulations go out to the Baldwin rink from Whitehorse, who went undefeated with a record of 6-0 this past weekend in the Yukon/N.W.T. mixed curling championships, which were held at the Whitehorse Curling Club.

The team consists of Nicole Baldwin, who calls the game and throws third stones, Wade Scoffin throwing skip stones, James Byck as second and Helen Strong as lead.

The mixed national championship will be held next November, with the location yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, the Herbie Balsam rink of Whitehorse was runner up at the territorial playdowns, with a record of 4-2. Balsam was curling with Corrine Delaire, Mike Menzies and Frances Taylor.

Also competing this weekend were the Nick Kaeser and Melvin Sittichinli rinks from the Northwest Territories.

Team Kaesar, hailing from Ft. Smith, included Sandy Poitras, Darryl McArthur and Patty Harlen. They ended up with a 2-4 record.

Team Sittichinli, from Innuvik, included Gloria Allen, Nick Sturnino and Diane Baxter. They finished the championships at 0-6.
